About the Czech Army’s aircraft
The Czech Air Force ensures the sovereignty and defence of the Czech Republic’s airspace and carries out key tasks as part of the country’s NATO commitments. Its fleet of JAS-39 Gripen supersonic aircraft and subsonic L-159 ALCA aircraft represents cutting-edge technology that requires uncompromising maintenance. Given the dynamic nature of military operations, the Air Force must be capable of immediate deployment and maintenance of its equipment even away from its home bases, whilst adhering to the strictest environmental and safety standards.
Mobile washing system for JAS-39 Gripen and L-159 aircraft
Wellsprint has successfully completed a specialised contract for the Czech Armed Forces, focusing on the environmentally friendly cleaning of military aircraft whilst air units are temporarily deployed away from their home base.
The aim of the project was to ensure the safe and environmentally responsible washing of L-159 ALCA and JAS-39 Gripen aircraft in conditions where standard infrastructure for aircraft maintenance is not available.

THE PROBLEM WE HELPED SOLVE
Washing aircraft outside permanent facilities
When maintaining military aircraft, regular technical washing is an essential part of keeping them airworthy and protecting their surfaces from corrosion and contamination.
As part of the planned closure of the home air base, it was necessary to set up a fully functional mobile workstation that would enable:
- safe aircraft washing directly on the apron,
- collection of all waste water,
- preventing contamination of the surrounding environment,
- compliance with the requirements of the Water Act and waste management regulations,
- quick assembly and dismantling of the system.

In-house mobile washing system
To carry out the project, we deployed our own mobile washing system designed for use in the field.
The solution included:
- large-capacity retention tanks with inflatable rims,
- high-pressure cleaning equipment,
- a system for collecting and pumping waste water,
- storage capacity for contaminated water,
- logistical support for the entire event,
Upon arrival at the site, a mobile washing area was set up to allow the aircraft to be positioned safely, including the collection of all waste water generated during the washing process.
The wastewater was subsequently pumped out and sent for professional disposal in accordance with the applicable legislation.
Implementation process
The project was carried out directly on the military airfield whilst it was in full operation.
Following the installation of the technology, the following took place:
- layout of the retention tank,
- installation of washing and pumping equipment,
- system security check,
- training of operators,
- washing the aircraft themselves,
- environmentally sound disposal of collected wastewater.
Thanks to the mobile solution, there was no need to set up any temporary infrastructure or interfere with the existing airport areas.
Result
The project was completed within the required timeframe and without any disruption to aircraft operations.
